Burger King and Pret join KFC by reopening for takeaway and delivery

Burger King and Pret A Manger are finally re-opening branches after taking steps to make them safer for staff and customers.

Both chains said they would only be available for delivery, as restaurants' dining areas are still required to be closed as part of the coronavirus lockdown measures.

Yesterday, KFC opened a select number of branches for delivery only, while food menus will be selective and fewer staff members will be in store to make sure their safety looked after.

Burger King said it will now reopen four restaurants: Two in Bristol, one in Coventry and one in Swindon. All restaurants will have social distancing measures.

Katie Evans, Burger King marketing director, said she hoped the re-openings would go "some way to lifting our customers' spirits in these difficult times".

Pret a Manger is reopening 10 shop kitchens close to hospitals in London from today.

"This allows us to also get our supply chain up and running to donate food to homeless charities, so we will be donating 7,000 additional meals per week to our homeless charity partners," the chain said in a statement.

A KFC spokesperson said: "Over the last week, we've reopened 11 of our restaurants in the UK."

"They're open for delivery only and are serving a limited menu, operated by fewer team members with new procedures in place to help ensure we're following social distancing guidelines."

Showing support for all the NHS workers on the frontline, KFC added: "There's still a need for affordable, accessible food at this time - so we want to do our part."

"We've also donated thousands of meals from all our open restaurants to those on the frontline, including the NHS and key workers, in partnership with Deliveroo, and will continue to do so each week whilst the situation continues."

KFC restaurants locations that have re-opened:

  • Stockport
  • Staffordshire
  • Birmingham
  • Hulme
  • Portsmouth
  • Bracknell
  • Ipswich
  • Glasgow
  • Great Western Retail Park branches
  • Enfield
