Burger King 'accidentally served veggie mum beef burger making her physically ill'

A vegetarian claims she threw up after being served meat instead of a veggie burger at a Burger King.

Jayne Mitchell ordered the fast-food giant's plant-based Rebel Whopper at the Eastville branch in Bristol, then took the meal home to share with her son along with a Halloumi Burger.

But after one mouthful, the mum realised she had just eaten meat and had to quickly run to the toilet to be sick.

Fuming, the 53-year-old called the branch to complain but claims the manager was 'rude' and 'dismissive'.

"He answered and didn't sound like he was listening," she told Bristol Live. "He then told me he was in the middle of serving some burgers."

"I explained what happened and he admitted it was him who did it and he mixed up two other orders before realising.

"He told me I had to contact the head office if I wanted to complain. He didn't apologise. When I asked if I could have a refund he just replied 'yeah'."

After unwittingly taking a mouthful of  the meat, she was unable to eat all evening.

"It made me physically sick," said Jayne. "Even before I became vegetarian I never ate burgers from those places because they are so processed."

After complaining to head office, a  spokesperson emailed her back confirming an investigation has been launched into the incident.

The email read: "We have informed the field team and will work with the franchisee to investigate this issue to ensure that experiences like yours will no longer occur in the future and where necessary, reinforcement training or operational guidance will be provided to ensure that both service and products are served at the highest quality every time."

A Burger King spokesman said: "Firstly, we'd like to sincerely apologise to the customer in question, mistakes can happen but this is not something that should happen in our restaurants.

"As soon as the crew on shift were alerted to the mistake the customer was apologised too and offered a full refund, they were also advised of how to contact out central customer services.

"As reflected in our correspondence with the customer we're carrying out an investigation into the incident and reviewing our processes to ensure this does not happen again."
