Burberry launches first ever rental and resale service

Burberry is taking steps to reduce wastage in the fashion industry by offering a rental and resale service for the first time, in partnership with My Wardrobe HQ.

In a bid to champion a more circular future for their iconic check pieces and trench coats Burberry (and several of their high profile customers) has donated an edit of trainers, tracksuits, puffer jackets, handbags, knitwear and trench coats that will be available to rent or buy on the My Wardrobe HQ website from December 8.

The items will be available to rent for 1, 4, 7, 10 or 14 day periods, starting at £22 per day, and can all be purchased outright at a reduced price.

As the planet warms and the fashion industry faces increasing pressure to self-regulate and ebb the flow of climate change, the move is a welcome one from Burberry – who several years ago faced criticism for burning old stock.

40 per cent of each transaction will go to the Smart Works, of which Meghan Markle is patron. The charity provides high quality interview clothes and coaching to unemployed women in need. Burberry has been working with Smart Works since 2013, donating product as part of charity’s service designed to help women look and feel their best as they begin to re-enter the workforce.

“Supporting the principles of a more circular economy is key in achieving our ambition to be Climate Positive by 2040,” said Pam Batty, Burberry’s VP of Corporate Responsibility. “We are delighted to partner with My Wardrobe HQ to offer our communities a new way to shop sustainably for luxury pieces of the highest quality and craftsmanship, whilst expanding on our existing reuse, repair and recycling initiatives.”
