Bunny Wailer dead: Reggae star and childhood friend of Bob Marley dies aged 73

Reggae star Bunny Wailer has died aged 73.

He found fame as an original member of The Wailers with his childhood friend and star Bob Marley.

Their hits Simmer Down and Stir It Up gained international recognition and global fame.

His manager Maxine Stowe and Jamaica's Culture Minister Olivia Grange confirmed the news of Bunny's death.

The cause of his death has not been made public yet.

Wailer had been in hospital for months after he had a stroke in July last year.

The musician first rocketed to fame as a member on The Wailers.

But the singer chased the dreams of going solo and left the band in 1974.

He was the last surviving member of the successful band.

His childhood friend and his former bandmate Bob died aged 36 after a battle with cancer in May in 1981.

Their other bandmate Peter Tosh was murdered in a robbery in 1987.

He found fame as an original member of The Wailers with his childhood friend and star Bob Marley (Redferns)

Wailer's real name was Neville O'Riley Livingston.

His high-flying music career was decorated with many awards over the years in the showbiz industry.

For an impressive CV among the stars, Wailer secured three Grammys to his name.

The star was also awarded with a Jamaica's Order Of Merit in 2017.

The cause of his death has not been made public (Redferns)

It's reported his net worth was estimated at $500,000 (£360,000), according to celebritynetworth.com.

In 2014, Wailer compared his band The Wailers to "growing as a family" when they first begun making music together.

He told The Irish Times: “We grew as a family and we made music together.

“Joe Higgs had a duo [Higgs & Wilson] and he was our teacher, and he instructed us in the ways of reggae music and we developed to be The Wailers.”
