Bunny, the Micro Bakery is closed for good

April 26--Iliana Regan's Bunny, the Micro Bakery is officially closed.

The literally tiny bakery opened to rave reviews in January, but mysteriously closed last week. At the time, Regan said that she hoped to have the shop back open soon. But in a letter sent out to supporters of the bakery's Kickstarter campaign, she announced that it was closed for good. The news was first reported by Chicagoist.

In a phone call, Regan confirmed the closing, saying she was concerned at the moment with taking "care of my Kickstarter people and those who bought Tock tickets, to compensate them the best I can."

Regan's business partner, Phil Tadros, said that they couldn't quite make Bunny, the Micro Bakery work financially: "It was an amazing experience as a customer, but as a business it's really difficult to sustain and scale with the labor that goes into making such from-scratch, high-quality dishes in an affordable grab-and-go way."

While Bunny is gone, Tadros says that the two are hoping to find another use for the space, though nothing has been decided.

In the meantime, Regan continues to run the highly acclaimed restaurant Elizabeth in Lincoln Square, and she's getting ready to launch a new Japanese restaurant called Kitsune in North Center in the upcoming months.
