Bunny found 'weak and cold' near IKEA Belfast back home after two night's care

A bunny found "weak and cold" in Belfast's IKEA car park has been released back to the wild after two night's with the kindhearted Newtownabbey folks who found him.

Doolittles Wildlife Rescue said the rabbit was discovered on Saturday evening.

Although a vet found no injuries, it's thought the bad weather had left them feeling the strain of life among the bushes at Holywood Exchange.

But after a little care and attention, they made it home.

Doolittles Wildlife Rescue shared the good news on Wednesday.

They said in a social media post: "Got a call about a little bunny that was picked up in IKEA carpark on Saturday evening.. was weak and cold.

"Vets checked it over and didn't find any injuries or signs of illness. With all the bad weather I'm sure it was feeling the strain of being cold, wet and hungry... after a couple of nights B&B with the finders in a lovely warm animal room it was feisty and needing back to its home.

"Nipped over to Newtownabbey to collect it and brought it right back down to IKEA carpark. Released it into the hedges near the airport fence.

"Anyone who has visited here will know there is a big population of bunnies all along the Holywood Exchange and you'll regularly see them munching grass on the verges..

"He stopped to have a quick look about and get his bearings then was off into the undergrowth."

The volunteer organisation has also been caring for a peregrine falcon injured in a clash with a car in Newcastle.

They said the bird of prey has swollen eyes but that it's legs and wings were unaffected, while it is not believed to have any broken bones.
