Bunny ears: the latest must-have accessory

It takes a lot to make the Olsen twins look cheery. But even this pouty pair struggle to look sulky decked out in the latest celebrity trend: bunny ears. Yes, that's right. While to most of us the idea of wearing a pair of rabbit ears on our heads may scream "hen party", it's a trend that's gathering momentum. It started earlier this year when Louis Vuitton sent models down its autumn/winter catwalk in black taffeta versions. Then Madonna, who features in Vuitton's advertising campaign, wore a scrunched turquoise pair to the Met Ball in May. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Lily Allen and Lady Gaga have since jumped aboard.

This may seem like a crazy celebrity fad, but it's not such a bad one. Actually, a pair of rabbit ears is the one accessory guaranteed to draw a smile from anyone in the vicinity. Both Maison Michel's lace version (worn by the Olsen twins – mouse ears for Ashley and rabbit ones for Mary-Kate) and the smaller, more commercial bunny ears Vuitton put into production are lovely - and cost £250. But it is surely only a matter of time before the British high street catches on. Can't wait? Just tie a piece of stiff, crumpled fabric around your favourite hair-band and off you hop.
