Bungie is giving out seven Sponsored Kits in Marathon after increased server issues during the Season 2 launch on June 2.
On June 3, the Marathon Development Team account on X stated that to make up for the disruption during the Season 2 launch, the developer is sending out seven Sponsored Kits to anyone who played during the affected times from 12pm CT to 6pm CT. Even if you logged into Marathon without doing a single run, you still get the rewards.
The Sponsored Kits include six Deluxe Kits (NuCal, MIDA, Traxus, Arachne, Sekiguchi, and USEC) and one Superior Kit (CyberAcme). The rewards await you in the Mailbox the next time you open Marathon. There are two messages with attached Kits.
Sponsored Kits come with a weapon, shields, a backpack, healing items, and a set of Cores and Implants for your selected Runner Shell. The main differences between Kits from different factions are their weapons and equipment slots. Keep in mind that Sponsored Kits act as a dedicated loadout. You can’t add or remove items from your inventory when using a Sponsored Kit.
The compensation comes after Marathon experienced multiple Anteater, Monkey, and Weasel errors that caused Bungie to take the game offline for several hours to perform maintenance. The server issues should now be resolved, and you can get back to exploring Season 2 content.
With Season 2, Bungie also launched a free week period, running from June 2 to June 9, allowing anyone to try out Marathon. The server issues definitely spoiled the experience if you were playing it for the first time, but the game has already hit 40,686 players on Steam, so it’s worth giving the game another try, as the influx of new players should keep things fresh and fair.
