Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka played the entirety of the club's 2-0 defeat to bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Son Heung-min put the hosts ahead after 13 minutes with a sweetly-struck effort from outside the area, before Harry Kane doubled his side's advantage shortly before half-time, his shot from close range cannoning in off the crossbar with goalkeeper Bernd Leno well beaten.
The result leaves Arsenal languishing in 15th place with over a quarter of the season played.
Xhaka did not put on the greatest of performances in the middle of the park and picked up a yellow card during the second half after a number of previous fouls had gone unpunished.
One Manchester United fan on Twitter reacted to the 29-year-old's showing by posting: "Augsburg is Xhaka's level."
The Bundesliga outfit, who currently sit 10th in Germany's top flight, promptly hit back in comical fashion with: "Respect us." The tweet, at the time of writing, had racked up more than 100,000 likes.
Arsenal supporters replied in numbers to the tweet, with one distraught user begging: "Please spare us, we have suffered enough."
Another added: "I beg you take him away."
Xhaka joined the Gunners in 2016 from Borussia Monchengladbach for a fee in the region of £40million and has since made 189 appearances for the club.
He seemed certain to leave north London in January of this year after he hit out at supporters while he was being substituted during a match against Crystal Palace last season.
However, Mikel Arteta managed to convince him to stay after the Spaniard was appointed following Unai Emery's departure.
"With my heart I had already left the club," Xhaka told German outlet Neue Zurcher Zeitung last month. "The fact that I am still there today is thanks to coach Mikel Arteta.
"First, he wanted an explanation from me of what I felt, why I had acted like that. That’s exactly what I couldn’t do in the national team. I could tell him my motives, let out what was on my mind."
