The second weekend of the new Bundesliga season features one of the classic matchups in the German championship in what should be an amazing 90 minutes between a team hoping to start a season well for a change and pick up three giant points against the seven-time defending champions, who could have the debut of a player looking for a fresh start in Bavaria.

After a summer of transition and a failed transfer pursuit, Bayern started the season with a shocking 2-2 draw at home against Hertha Berlin on opening night. The Bavarians showed weaknesses at the back and lacked ideas upfront, and they were quite disappointing in a night they usually dominate to start the season on a high. Enter Philippe Coutinho, on loan from Barcelona with the responsibility and promise to bring a special talent to the champions. If he makes his debut on Saturday, it’ll be a baptism by fire that can prove whether or not he’s ready to lead Bayern to glory this season.
Schalke also started the season with a draw, a goalless one away from home against Borussia Mönchenglabach that is not a bad result considering they were on the road against a very good team. However, the Royal Blues are not satisfied. Last season’s relegation horrors cannot return this time around, so Schalke’s job is to start well and pick up points early. Of course, facing Bayern is not easy, but the champions are very vulnerable right now and Schalke will be looking to take advantage, which should make this a fascinating match to watch.
