Bundesliga preview, Jurgen Klopp's mate feeling the heat as Bayern close on title

While Jurgen Klopp can't wait to get back playing football again, his best mate surely can't wait for the Bundesliga season to finish.

Klopp needs two wins - maximum - to celebrate Liverpool's first league title for 30 years.

"This could be the most special season ever, with or without COVID," he said this week.

But the Best Man at Klopp's wedding, David Wagner, is heading for a messy divorce at Schalke if the Bundesliga side's post-lockdown form continues.

Schalke have played four - lost four - since returning to action behind closed doors in Germany. All this after a flying start to the season which left Schalke ahead of champions-elect Bayern Munich in the table after 15 matches.

"We have to start delivering other kinds of performances and we have to start immediately," Schalke sports director Jochen Schneider said this week.

"We have to stop presenting ourselves in this victim role."

Ominous words, which leaves Wagner hoping for a swift turnaround at Union Berlin on Sunday.

But before then the latest round of Bundesliga matches kicks-off at Freiburg on Friday night (BT Sport 1) where Borussia Moenchengladbach are odds on favourites.

Without defeat in five away matches - not that home advantage appears to matter any more in empty stadia - Borussia are 4/5 while Marcus Thuram , with four goals in his last four matches, is 9/2 to open the scoring and 6/4 to score any time.

Saturday's four 2.30pm kick-offs include Bayern Munich, attempting to take another giant step towards wrapping up the Bundesliga title for a record eighth consecutive time, at Bayer Leverkusen. Bayern are 4/9 but the last six clashes between the two sides have seen an average of 2.17 first-half goals scored. The early goals market is worth exploring, with a goal in the first 15 minutes 7/5 with thepools.com.
