Bundee Aki very aware of potential struggles in Misaki heat for Ireland

Bundee Aki was among the crowd at the sweatbox Misaki stadium on Monday night for Scotland against Samoa.

So the Ireland centre is fully aware of how the conditions could affect today's Pool A clash with Russia.

"It’s sweaty conditions, slippery ball," said Aki. "As a collective we know what the challenge is in front of us."

Rhys Ruddock has outlined how Ireland will deal with the conditions in Kobe.

"It seems that the conditions aren’t too bad at the start but as the game goes on, it will be difficult" he said.

"There are lots of different ways you can adapt in terms of how long you hold on to the ball and whether it’s better to turn it around and play a territory game.

"It’s about making sure we look after the ball with shorter passes and not leaving the ball in the air too long so that they can force errors on you.

"But we’ve got to go out with a mindset to play, see how it is and adapt on the run.

"We’ll cross that barrier when we get there, if conditions deteriorate during the game."

Ruddock, who came off the bench against Japan, claimed that Ireland were "ready to move forward" after that surprise loss, with victory over Russia as the first step.

The flanker said: "There are lots of areas we want to improve on but Russia will be a different challenge.

"They'll pose a lot of the same threats (as Japan) in terms of the intensity and physicality and ambition to take us on.

"Hopefully we’ll learn the lessons from last week and we’ll prove that we’re in a better place".
