Bumrah fired up for first pink-ball Test

Jasprit Bumrah is yet to produce his best on this tour but the pink ball will give India's spearhead an ideal chance to recreate the unforgettable carnage of his previous visit to Australia.

Bumrah made an indelible impression on Justin Langer's side in 2018-19, when his 21 wickets at 17 helped India complete their maiden Test series win in Australia.

The 27-year-old's unique action and release point, coupled with express pace and swing or seam movement, makes it tricky for batsmen to pick up the ball.

Bumrah's pinpoint yorkers won't be any easier to read in coming days at Adelaide Oval, especially during the twilight period that is associated with batting collapses.

The potent paceman will be playing his first day-night Test, having missed India's crushing win over Bangladesh last year because of a back stress fracture.

It is an occasion Bumrah has been looking forward to for some time.

The excitement was palpable during Mumbai Indians' triumphant IPL campaign, when the right-armer discussed how best to approach the innovation with teammate James Pattinson and bowling mentor Shane Bond.

"Booms has been out here before and been very successful but he's still interested in different ways to do things. That's one of his greatest strengths," Bond, now coaching the Sydney Thunder, told AAP.

"If he has the ball at the right time of night and it's reasonably new then he can banana it both ways at 145k plus and do all sorts of damage."

Bumrah was carted for 1-73 and 1-79 in his first two one-dayers this tour before he showed flashes of his best in a pink-ball tour game at the SCG, where he dismissed Joe Burns.

"He takes a great deal of pride in his performance and I know he'll be annoyed he hasn't quite got the results so far that he's wanted," Bond said.

"The wickets were pretty flat in the ODI series to be fair.

"I'm sure the tour is going to get better for Booms ... he'll be a real handful and is the sort of bowler who can very quickly change a game if he gets it right."

Pattinson, who formed a bond with Bumrah during their time in the UAE, suggested the India quick almost never stopped talking cricket.

"We both said if we could get the new pink ball under lights it'd be good," Pattinson said.

"Both teams have got really good bowling line-ups, so it should be really great viewing."
