Bumper deal being discussed by Newcastle and Joe Willock - and what it means for Sean Longstaff

Joe Willock could be one of Newcastle United's highest-paid players if the midfielder can agree terms with the Magpies.

Talks between the 21-year-old, his father Charles and United chiefs went on throughout Monday as fans wait for an announcement on his arrival on a permanent deal.

As it stands, Newcastle's top earners are players like Jonjo Shelvey and Allan Saint-Maximin who pick up around £90,000 per week, and Willock's representatives want a deal that will reflect his importance to the team.

Willock helped drag the Magpies away from danger last season and scored eight goals during his loan stint, bagging seven in the final seven matches to become a firm fan favourite.

In an ideal world, Steve Bruce would love to be able to name Willock on his team sheet against West Ham.

On a dramatic day, Sunday resulted in the Magpies agreeing a £25million package for Willock's services after the Gunners made it clear they wanted a cash deal.

Willock had been described as an "Arsenal player" by Mikel Arteta but his stance changed on Sunday after Arsenal's 1-0 defeat over Tottehham Hotspur.

And while Arteta was still coy about Willock he no longer offered a narrative which suggested he was potentially part of his plans.

Since a bid went in for Willock, talk of Sean Longstaff moving to Everton has intensified with former Toon boss Rafa Benitez interested in bringing him to Goodison Park.

However, no cash offer has been placed by the Toffees and his fee would up for debate as his contract expires at the end of this season.

Were Willock to sign it would put a question mark over Longstaff's chances of starting in the early part of the season.

Willock's arrival last term coincided with a two month stint on the sidelines for the Geordie midfielder.
