Bulwell Academy headteacher steps down after a few months in the role

The principal of a Nottingham school has stepped down from their position months after they took on the role in April. Parents with pupils at Bulwell Academy received a letter on Monday, October 31, stating that principal Sara Wildes had stepped down from her position "with immediate effect".

In the letter, Ms Wildes stated: "Despite only having been at the school for a short time, I have decided now is the right time to move on and pursue other opportunities. I feel privileged to have worked with so many great staff and students and to have briefly known the local community. "I wish the school, staff, and students all the best for the future."

Sam Williamson has taken on the role of interim head of school. To maintain stability in its leadership, the school will also be welcoming Chris Keen, the current principal at Ellis Guildford School, who has taken on the role of executive principal for the academy and will be leading both schools.

Mr Keen has more than 10 years of experience as a principal, including several years as a principal for the Creative Education Trust. Mr Keen has also overseen a number of rapid improvements during his time at the Ellis Guildford School.

The letter written to parents by Nicole McCartney, director of education for the trust, stated that "Chris is passionate about the young people of Nottingham and is looking forward to working alongside pupils, parents and staff at Bulwell in the role of Executive Principal."

A CET spokesperson said: “We can confirm that Principal Sara Wildes has stepped down from her position at Bulwell Academy to pursue other opportunities. We are grateful to Sara for her contribution to the Bulwell community and for all of her hard work since taking up this post.

"We are pleased to announce that Sam Williamson, an experienced school leader, will take up post as Interim Head of School immediately and Chris Keen, Principal at Ellis Guilford School, will also step up to the role of Executive Principal with immediate effect.

"Both of these new appointments will help Bulwell Academy maintain stability in its leadership and CET will continue to support both academies to ensure they have the resourcing they need to progress and thrive."
