Bullying in politics is rife. It must stop now

Tory activist Elliott Johnson
Young Tory activist Elliott Johnson killed himself after claims he was bullied

Over recent months, it has become clear that bullying is rife – tolerated, even – in all political parties. Blairites are being subjected to Corbyn supporters’ bile on and off the record, and who can forget the SNP’s hounding of anyone opposed to their separatist agenda? In recent weeks, it has been the turn of my party, the Conservatives. Some members were horrendously bullied by a tiny minority of activists. This, sadly, led to one young activist taking his own life. The alarm bells fell on deaf ears. Surely we need a union to stand up for members’ interests? If party bosses ignored members’ complaints on bullying and other such matters, we could withdraw our labour. One wonders if we would be recognised and the minimum turnout rule used against our own paid-up members?
