A thug was jailed for beating up his partner during a drunken row over her mobile phone.
Phillip Reed 44, attacked his partner Elaine Whitehead after an argument over a mobile phone escalated into physical violence.
The couple had been drinking wine on the night of October 20 last year when they began to argue.
Barrister Ian Criddle told Liverpool Crown cour t that Reed had been looking at Ms Whitehead's Facebook page and called one of her former partners on the night of the attack.
Ms Whitehead then phoned a friend and put her on loudspeaker.
But Mr Criddle then told how Reed began a 'sexualised conversation' which irritated his partner. He then tried to grab her phone, and she resisted.
Mr Criddle said: "The row then became violent.
"He punched her in the chest, he swiped her legs while holding her throat.
"He put his fingers in her mouth and kicked her legs.
"He then assumed a kind of martial arts pose, and she tried to grab his genitals. "
Mr Criddle added: "He then grabbed her pony tail and banged her head against the wall."
Ms Whitehead had managed to call police but was cut off during the attack.
The emergency services managed to trace the call and police later arrived at her Wirral home.
Mr Criddle said that Ms Whitehead suffered swelling and grazing to her head , neck and suffered bruising to her breasts, fingers and legs.
In a victim impact statement she said that she now suffers from anxiety, panic attacks and insomnia.
The court heard that Reed, who is a former Royal Marine who had served in Afghanistan, had convictions for domestic violence involving previous partners.
He had also breached a non-molestation order in the past.
Neil Gunn, defending, said that Reed had been involved in a 'failed relationship' and had struggled with alcohol in the past.
He said that his client had now stopped drinking.
Mr Gunn acknowledged that Reed had a criminal record but said that he had an 18-year-old son was who 'vulnerable' and needed his dad.
He said that Reed had served in Afghanistan but had struggled to adjust to civilian life since he left the forces and suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder.
Judge Thomas Teague QC described the attack on Ms Whitehead as a case of 'violent misogynistic bullying' and said that there was no realistic prospect of rehabilitating Reed.
He added that Reed, of Harrowby Road in Birkenhead, represented a danger to women who he entered into a relationship with.
Reed, who admitted assault by beating, was jailed for four months.
Judge Teague also imposed a restriction order on Reed preventing him from making contact with Ms Whitehead or from going near her home.
The order will last for five years.
