Bulls' Wade's scrimmage creates optimism for return; Rajon Rondo injured

PHILADELPHIA _ Fitting for such an up-and-down season, the Bulls revealed injury news good and bad on Wednesday.

Dwyane Wade scrimmaged during parts of the Bulls' workout at Temple University and now could return from his fractured right elbow before the end of the regular season. But Rajon Rondo sprained his right wrist during Tuesday's loss to the Knicks and is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the 76ers.

This marked Wade's first contact practice since he suffered a small fracture and sprained his right elbow on March 15 versus the Grizzlies. The Bulls ruled him out for the remainder of the regular season after an MRI exam the next day.

The plan is to see how the elbow responds to the workout, have another conditioning session Thursday and then practice again Friday in New York. Coach Fred Hoiberg didn't rule Wade out for Saturday's game at the Nets or, more likely, next week's final two home games.

"If he responds in a positive manner from the contact practice, we'll see," Hoiberg told reporters. "I'm sure we'll have to have a little bit of a restriction on his minutes but hopefully get him back in a rhythm these last few games."

Jimmy Butler would welcome that.

"He makes my job a lot easier, as well as everybody else's," Butler said. "It's just good to have his presence. That's bigger than what he does on the floor."

Rondo said he hurt his wrist swiping at the ball for a steal in the first quarter. After assisting on the Bulls' first eight baskets and finishing with nine, Rondo sat out the final 16 minutes, 11 seconds.

"It just doesn't feel right," Rondo said.

X-rays were negative. Results of an MRI exam weren't immediately made available.
