A bright cameo from opener Nic Maddinson has helped Victoria to 2-55 at lunch after Queensland sent Victoria in under ominous grey skies in their Sheffield Shield clash in Brisbane.
Maddinson hooked Michael Neser for six in the first over to get off the mark and kept blazing to all parts of Allan Border Field before he was dismissed for 32 off 36 balls.
In-form captain Peter Handscomb then departed for a second-ball duck as the visitors lost two wickets in the 10th over.
But Test opener Marcus Harris (10 not out) and Matt Short (nine not out) ensured there was no further damage as rain continued to threaten on Monday.
Jack Wildermuth took both wickets, although the allrounder has gone at more than five an over thanks to Maddinson's whirlwind knock.
Queensland will look to exploit the bowler-friendly conditions on offer, with Neser returning to the four-day arena after starring in their one-day victory last week in his comeback from a hamstring injury.
The Bulls are equal on points with leaders NSW thanks to three wins and a draw from their five games this season, while Victoria have drawn four and won once to sit fourth with two rounds remaining.
Queensland quick Xavier Bartlett has made way for Neser while Jonathan Merlo is Victoria's 12th man.
