Bulls Free Agency: Should Chicago give Christian Wood a chance?

As the Chicago Bulls consider all options this summer, free agency will be crucial. With all the trade rumors swirling around, the importance of nailing free agency has flown under the radar. If Chicago hopes to make any meaningful improvements heading into next year, signing the right free agents is an absolute must.

Their obvious needs are the point guard and forward spots, but should they be looking to reformulate their center position, too? By all accounts, they are looking to bring back Nikola Vucevic, but adding another option could be a solid idea, too. What if they went after Christian Wood?

Recent reporting from Marc Stein indicates that the Dallas Mavericks are done with Wood, meaning he will enter the offseason as an unrestricted free agent whose value could be at an all-time low.

Defensively, Wood leaves much to be desired, but the Bulls’ defense was solid last year. It was their offense that let them down at times, and that’s where Wood could help them.

He’s a solid scorer in the post, but more importantly, he can stretch the floor and nail his three-point shots. For a team that struggled as much as Chicago did from behind the arc this past year, adding help on the perimeter will be crucial.

Plus, while it may not be too pretty on the defensive end, Chicago could test out some lineups with Wood at the four and Vucevic at the five.

With how down his value may be, Chicago could look to snag him for the MLE or complete a sign-and-trade with Dallas. Regardless, he could be an intriguing candidate for them to target.
