CHICAGO _ Bulls guard Dwyane Wade stood shoulder to shoulder with LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul at the ESPY Awards show in July, star power committed to promoting social change.
Quarterback Colin Kaepernick of the 49ers has created even more discussion with national anthem protests that have been both imitated and criticized.
Not surprisingly, Wade _ whose cousin was killed by gunfire in Chicago last month _ supports Kaepernick.
"It's great when you see an athlete use his voice for something that he believes in," Wade said. "The one thing that I'm thankful for is that I've been educated. Kaepernick educated a lot of us on things we didn't know.
"For me, things in this city that I've seen, we have a different kind of battle here in Chicago. My focus is on this city and what am I capable of doing to help our youth in this city in a bigger way."
