Bulls' Derrick Rose right on schedule after follow-up exam

Oct. 04--Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg said Derrick Rose's follow-up exam went well and he is scheduled to be cleared to watch practice beginning Wednesday. The two-week timetable until Rose is cleared for basketball activity, issued after his Wednesday surgery to repair his left orbital fracture, remains.

"They have advised him to continue to let that sight heal and they think the best way for him to do that is to stay home at this time," Hoiberg said. "They don't want him really doing much of anything except walking, getting a lot of rest and not doing anything where he could dilate his blood vessels. After those two weeks, he should be able to resume full activity."

Hoiberg said "a couple of coaches" visited Rose's home Saturday with film of new sets. Kirk Hinrich is confident Rose will reacclimate quickly.

"It's a perfect system for him," Hinrich said. "Get stops, push the ball up and make plays. He's as good as anybody at that."

Fumble fingers: Asked for what issues have troubled him the most thus far, Hoiberg mentioned turnovers, surrendering offensive rebounds and passing up shots. Turnovers are a common problem for all teams at this stage of camp.

"Just make simple plays," Hoiberg said. "We have enough weapons on this team. You don't have to hit a home run every time you try to make a play."

Layups: The Bulls get their first day off from camp Sunday. Hoiberg said Monday's practice will be at the United Center for acclimation in advance of Tuesday's exhibition opener against the Bucks. ... Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf attended practice and visited with several players afterward. ... Flip Saunders, the Timberwolves coach and president of basketball operations who is on a leave of absence as he battles Hodgkin lymphoma, may miss the whole season. "He's a great man," Hoiberg said. "I was honored to play for him and just talk basketball with him. He has had a big impact on my career. When I left Chicago, he gave me an opportunity. Obviously, thoughts and prayers to Flip and his family."
