NEW ORLEANS _ Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg said he was "sorry to hear" about Derrick Rose's latest injury.
Rose suffered his fourth major knee injury in five years, a torn meniscus in his left knee that will require an arthroscopy. Rose will miss the Knicks' remaining five games, and the former Bulls star guard is facing another rehabilitation _ this time while heading into unrestricted free agency.
A source told the Tribune that Rose's rehab is projected to take 6-8 weeks.
Rose had three previous knee operations while with the Bulls, including one to repair a torn ACL in his left knee suffered during the 2012 playoffs. The 2011 MVP also had surgeries to repair the meniscus in his right knee during the 2013-14 season and again the next season.
Hoiberg coached Rose through and up-and-down season in 2015-16, Hoiberg's first year as an NBA coach.
"People that know Derrick hope he has a good recovery and puts himself in a good situation next season," Hoiberg said "Having an unbelievable start to his career and then battling through injuries and having to fight through adversity I'm sure has been tough on Derrick."
Rose averaged 18 points and 4.4 assists in 64 games for the Knicks, who have been eliminated from the postseason in the Eastern Conference. In seven seasons with the Bulls, Rose averaged 19.7 points and 6.2 assists.
