Bullets, guns found at rural property as police close in on murder suspects

Police say rifles and bullets were found at the Leyburn property.

Police have found guns, boxes of bullets and drug equipment buried in a Darling Downs property, as they investigate the suspected murder of Brisbane man Sam Price-Purcell.

This week, homicide detectives began their raid at the rural property at Leyburn, south of Toowoomba, with the help of forensic specialists and SES volunteers.

Two rifles and more than a dozen boxes of bullets were among the items hidden in an underground cavity.

Acting Detective Inspector Chris Knight said there were several suspects and police believed they were getting closer to catching those responsible for Mr Price-Purcell's death.

"We've reached a point where we're aiming towards an outcome. We don't know when, of course, but we're satisfied that we're moving in a very positive direction," he said.

"We do have suspects for this investigation. Those suspects do have a link to this property and that's what led us here."

Acting Inspector Knight said the owners of the property were not suspects, but people with a close connection to them were.

Mr Price-Purcell, 25, was last seen alive in February 2015 at Mitchelton, north of Brisbane.

Police believe he was driven to the Toowoomba region, where he was murdered.

A motive for the suspected killing has not been disclosed, but investigators have confirmed Mr Price-Purcell had links to drug crime.

Last month, his mother begged anyone with information about the case to come forward.

"Our whole family grieve for him every day — he's in our hearts and our thoughts everyday — we need to know what happened so we can have peace," she said.
