Police are examining bullets found near a football pitch in a busy North Belfast park.
SDLP councillor Paul McCusker dubbed the discovery in Marrowbone Park on Tuesday morning "strange".
Belfast City Council recently spent almost £650,000 upgrading the park which contains a 3G all weather pitch as well as a children's play area and walking trails.
The bullets, which were in a plastic bag, were handed over to police after being discovered by council workers.
Mr McCusker said: "It's strange how these bullets have been found in the park. They appear to have been tossed into some light undergrowth with no attempt to hide them."
The North Belfast man said the bullets did not "seem to be brand new".
"It's a very busy park in North Belfast and children and families use it," he added.
"They were found very close to a play pitch which all ages use.
"The good thing is that council workers took them away and police will now investigate where they came from."
Police are now investigating.
Sergeant Adams said: "Police received a report yesterday (Tuesday 16th July) at around 9.15am that what appeared to be two bullets in a small bag had been found in a park on the Oldpark Road, Belfast.
"Police have taken the items away for further examination."
Belfast City Council has been contacted for comment.
