A quantity of ammunition was discovered in Stockbridge Village this morning.
At around 11am today, it was reported that a member of the public had found a number of bullets on land in Marled Hey.
Patrols attended and a further search of the area was carried out.
The ammunition was seized for forensic examination and enquiries are ongoing.
Community Policing Inspector, Peter Rexwinkel said: "Thankfully these bullets, which could have potentially caused serious harm or even worse, have now been safely recovered and removed from our streets.
"We are grateful to the individual who brought them to our attention and it just goes to show how information from the community can play a vital role in tackling serious and organised crime.
"I would like to take this opportunity to encourage anyone with information on the criminal use or storage of weapons or ammunition to please come forward, so we can take action and remove them from the hands of criminals."
