LUCKNOW: Attacking the ruling BJP over the Wednesday morning demolition drive in Delhi, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said widespread resentment is brewing across the country over the illegal manner in which the BJP government is using bulldozers to target its rivals by declaring their property illegal and unlawfully razing the structures to ground.
“BJP has made bulldozers a symbol of the unlawful authority that they wield merely because the party is in power. Muslims and minorities, backwards and Dalits are their target. Hindus too are facing the wrath of lawlessness. In fact the BJP is trying to trample the Constitution of India under these bulldozers. Now the BJP should adopt these bulldozers as their identity,” Akhilesh tweeted in Hindi.
“They are singling out constructions and properties of their rivals, declaring them illegal at will and razing them. Now the common man will probe into the legality of the construction of houses, offices and business establishments of the BJP men and launch an agitation and bring the facts before the people,” he tweeted, attaching videoclips of the aftermath of Wednesday morning demolition.
The former UP CM has been taking potshots at UP CM's initiative of razing properties of gangsters under the provisions of the Gangster Act – which provides for confiscation of property raised through proceeds of a crime. He has, on several occasions, claimed that the chief minister’s official residence too does not have a plan approved by the authorities concerned and thus be demolished.
The recently concluded high decibel 2022 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh had ‘bulldozers’ under the spotlight with chief minister Yogi Adityanath, who was leading the UP BJP campaign, emphasizing on strict action against crime and criminals and Akhilesh Yadav claiming that illegal demolitions cannot be the hallmark of any development agenda, particularly the one that the BJP talked about.
