Bulldogs' Naughton cleared over AFL tackle

Western Bulldogs forward Aaron Naughton is free to play in week one of the AFL finals after being cleared by the match review officer.

Naughton was reported during his side's dramatic loss to Port Adelaide on Friday night, with the umpire alarmed by his tackle on Tom Jonas.

The report was assessed and dismissed by match review officer Michael Christian.

The Bulldogs, who are riding a three-game losing streak into finals, were also buoyed on Saturday by ruckman Stefan Martin getting through a scratch match against Sydney's reserves.

Martin has not played an AFL match since round 12 because of a series of injuries.

Meanwhile, Bulldog Caleb Daniel's backchat directed at umpire Ray Chamberlain is set to cost him a $1500 fine.

Daniel has been charged under the league's rules regarding 'abusive, insulting, threatening, obscene language towards an umpire'.

Daniel can accept a $1500 fine if he lodges an early plea.
