A dog was shot dead by police after injuring two people in Leigh.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to Hope Street just before 11pm on Saturday following reports that two people had been injured by a bulldog and taken to hospital.
Officers cordoned off the area, including nearby streets such as Holden Road and The Avenue.
The dog was put down at the scene and residents have described hearing gun shots.
Abigail Ross, who lives in the area, said: "It is just so sad.
"I do not think I will ever forget the noise of the shots."
Police said they are still trying to establish the full circumstances of the incident and no arrests have been made.
GMP confirmed the dog was shot by officers.
A spokesman said: "Police were called shortly after 10.50pm on Saturday 12 September 2020 to reports of a disturbance on Hope Street in Leigh.
"Two people are understood to have been injured by a dog and required hospital treatment.
"Officers attended and the dog – a Bulldog – was put down at the scene.
"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."
