Belconnen residents are now eligible to use bulky waste collection, as part of an expansion of the service across Canberra.
Bookings will be able to be made online for those in Belconnen for large items such as furniture, electronic and tools to be removed from the home for free and saving a trip to the tip.
All households in Belconnen suburbs are eligible for one free collection a year of up to two cubic metres of bulky items.
One collection day will be available for each suburb in the area every three months.
At this stage, dates are only available until the end of June.
More dates for collection between June 30 and September 30 will be made available in coming weeks.
It comes following the launch of bulky waste collection services to areas in Tuggeranong and Gungahlin last year.
All Canberra areas are set to be able to access bulky waste collection from July 1 as part of a fast-track of the scheme.
A phased rollout had been planned for bulky waste collection in the ACT to go until 2024.
Previously, only concession card holders in Canberra were able to access the collection service for free.
City Services Minister Chris Steel said the rollout was an opportunity for Canberrans to get rid of household items that were no longer needed.
"Many [collected] items find new homes and make their way back into our community," Mr Steel said.
"Our partnerships with charities like GIVIT, The Salvation Army and Vinnies help ensure vulnerable Canberrans benefit from recycled items.
"This is another way we can contribute to creating a circular economy where things are recycled and re-used, not simply thrown into landfill."
Since the bulky waste collection scheme began in the ACT for all residents last year, there had been a more than 38 per cent recovery rate of larger items that had been picked up and diverted from landfill.
Items such as household chemicals, glass and mirrors, tyres and garden waste are not able to be collected.
