Bulky waste will be accepted at South Lanarkshire’s six household waste recycling centres from Wednesday, July 1.
Local residents will be able to dispose of soft furnishing waste, mattresses and carpet and underlay.
In addition to the new materials, ordinary wood and laminate will still be accepted in addition to black bag waste, compostable garden waste and electrical items.
Cardboard will also still be accepted, but must be flattened - no boxes can be dumped otherwise, in case they contain contaminants. Polystyrene and polythene packaging should also be removed before disposing of cardboard.
Home improvement building waste, such as brick, rubble, plaster board, ceramic tiles and sanitary ware are still not permitted at the centres.
The further extension of the service follows the re-opening of the six centres on June 1 after arrangements were put in place to protect the health of residents using the facilities and staff during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Michael McGlynn, executive drector of Community and Enterprise Resources, said: “The phased re-opening is working well, with manageable levels of demand and of queues in the access roads. Once again I want to thank everyone for their patience as we have reintroduced these facilities.
“Working with Viridor, who run five of our six centres, we have been monitoring demand and we are now able to take these additional items which I am sure will be welcomed by the majority of our residents.”
Vans are now allowed at the sites on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but not trailers and no trade waste is accepted. The sites are for domestic waste from South Lanarkshire residents only, so ID showing address should be available for inspection on entry to sites.
Sites still may be busy at times, so residents should consider if they really need to visit, and they should only do so if they have no COVID-19 symptoms.
The council will continue to review arrangements in consultation with users, staff and Viridor and any changes and relevant dates will be publicised in advance.
Please note that any verbal abuse of staff by members of the public is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. Members of the public cannot access any of the sites on foot – it must be by car or van on the days stated above.

Opening hours are Monday to Sunday 9am-5pm.
