Bulgarian blames speeding bus driver for wiping out three of his friends in A90 crash

A Bulgarian blamed a speeding bus driver for wiping out three of his friends in a horror road smash.

Marin Rachev, 35, accused of driving into the path of the double-decker, told a detective: “How could I suicide myself?”

Asked who was to blame, he replied: “The bus driver. Because he killed them. He was over speed.”

Dad-of-two Rachev denies causing three deaths by dangerous driving on the A90 Dundee to Aberdeen road.

Yesterday, the High Court in Aberdeen heard from Detective Constable Dean Lynch, 28, who interviewed Rachev the day after the smash on March 12.

Tragedy struck at a turn-off to Drumlithie, near Stonehaven. Rachev is accused of emerging from the T-junction and crossing the dual carriageway to the central reservation to turn right when his Renault Scenic was hit by a northbound CityLinkGold bus.

Rear passengers Dimitar Georgiev, 32, Zaharina Hristova, 37, and Silyan Stefanov, 42, were all killed. Front-seat passenger Ivanka Dobreva survived.

Rachev said the bus, travelling at 62mph, just above its legal limit of 60, struck the side of his car sending it into a spin.

He said: “The bus didn’t stop. It didn’t slow down. It was accident. He didn’t stop at that moment.”

The trial before Lord Kinclaven continues today.
