Bulgaria v Republic of Ireland kick-off time: When tonight's game will get underway

The Republic of Ireland are back in action on Thursday night when they face Bulgaria in the UEFA Nations League.

It will be Stephen Kenny's first game as senior boss, having taking over from Mick McCarthy during lockdown.

The clash in Sofia will get underway at 7.45pm Irish time.

Speaking ahead of the game, Kenny said: “Sometimes I answer questions too honestly but it’s not a deliberate strategy.

“Maybe it's not wise. Maybe other people are wiser than me. That’s quite probable. But I believe that we have a lot of potential coming through the ranks.

“I think we've got a lot of good players, exciting players, exciting attacking players and we’ve a lot of good players in the squad already.

“It's a huge honour to manage this group, a huge privilege. We want to do the best that we can.

“So no, I don't feel any real pressure. I think there’s pressure with international management regardless. I don't see any added pressure.”

He added: “Listen, they're all good players who are playing at a high level and they're used to changing managers and coaches at their different clubs,” he continued.

“This is an international environment, it's different, but they're all adaptable and tactically they're adaptable.

“They're intelligent people and they can take stuff on board. You're not going to radically change everything in two days, that's not realistic.

“But we want to play with confidence - that's important. We want to have the balance of the team right so that we can be creative and create chances.

“And we want to have speed in our attack as well. That’s very important. And it’s important that we’re a real threat when we need to be.”
