Arsenal have received a major boost as teenager Bukayo Saka has signed a new long-term contract.
Standard Sport understands the 18-year-old has signed a four-year contract, keeping him at the Emirates until 2024.
Saka, who has come through the club’s academy, has been a bright spark this season in a tough campaign.
Saka has been with Arsenal since the age of seven and has now established himself as a first-team regular.
The winger’s previous deal had been due to run out in a year’s time and he had been attracting interest from the likes of Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund, but he has now penned fresh terms.
Head coach Mikel Arteta said: “Bukayo is a talented and intelligent young player. He has impressed me with his work ethic and attitude to learn and adapt, and it has paid off in his performances.
“I am excited to continue working with him to develop him further, and for him to help us achieve our goals.
“This is something everyone involved wanted to happen and we are delighted that Bukayo has signed a new long-term contract.
“He’s making great progress and is one of a number of young players who have developed through our academy. This is so important for us as we move forward as a club.”
With 11 assists this term, Saka is the first teenager to hit double figures in a single season for the Gunners since Cesc Fabregas in the 2006/07 campaign.
The teenager broke into the side at left-back, but has now established himself playing further forward under Arteta.
Technical director Edu Gaspar added: “This is something everyone involved wanted to happen and we are delighted that Bukayo has signed a new long-term contract.
“He’s making great progress and is one of a number of young players who have developed through our academy. This is so important for us as we move forward as a club.”
