Bukayo Saka shares Thierry Henry anecdote which fuelled his desire to emulate Arsenal icon

Bukayo Saka continues to be inspired by Thierry Henry who he dreams of emulating at Arsenal.

The teenager has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at the Emirates and recently signed a new long-term deal.

Saka has been in the Gunners academy for years but was just five-years-old when Henry left north London and headed for Barcelona.

Nevertheless the retired striker remains an influence at Arsenal and has previously shared stories with Saka about his refusal to accept defeat.

"His mindset was just so elite," the 18-year-old told Sky Sports.

"He told us about a day that Arsenal were behind and he wouldn't allow his team to lose before running past everyone to score!

"When he speaks to your face and you see in his eyes how passionate he is for the game and how much he wanted to win it shows why he was such a great player.

"You dream of trying to emulate a career like his. As a young player that just inspires you and that's why scoring against Wolves meant so much to me."

Saka has scored four times in 38 outings this term and has been heavily praised by Mikel Arteta despite his tender age.

His performances have seen him awarded the No 7 shirt for next season, a number previously worn by the likes of Robert Pires and David Rocastle.

The Spaniard has a host of young talents available to him at the Emirates and has been urged to back the next generation.

Henry was in his early 20s when he moved to Arsenal and hit the ground running at Highbury.

The Frenchman scored 26 times in his debut season and would go on to smash the 30 goal mark in five consecutive seasons.
