Bukayo Saka reveals secret behind Gabriel Martinelli partnership and makes Mikel Arteta claim

Mikel Arteta's impact since becoming Arsenal head coach was visible in Eddie Nketiah's goal against Bournemouth on Monday night.

The striker - making his first start under the Spaniard since being recalled from a loan spell at Leeds United - was on hand to double the Gunners' lead after 26 minutes at the Vitality Stadium.

Whilst it was a simple tap-in for the 20-year-old, the build up to the goal is was excited supporters.

Bournemouth 1-2 Arsenal: Arteta post-match press conference

In total there were 22 passes before the ball hit the back of the net with Bukayo Saka claiming the assist as he picked out Nketiah in the penalty area.

The goal brought back memories of the Gunners playing at their best under Arsene Wenger.

Whilst there is still a long way to go until this current side is playing free-flowing football on a consistent basis, Saka admits that is one thing Mikel Arteta wants to bring back after replacing Unai Emery as head coach.

"Mikel is trying to bring back the Arsenal passing philosophy of old," Saka told BT Sport after the game. "I feel like we played really good football in the first half but not so much in the second half."

Not only did Saka tee up Nketiah for a goal, but he was also on the scoresheet as early as the fifth minute as he lashed home a powerful effort which crashed in off the woodwork.

Claiming the assist for his goal was another teenager in Gabriel Martinelli as the Brazilian repaid Saka for the cross which brought about his first home Premier League goal against Sheffield United a couple of weeks ago.

The pair celebrated the opening goal by chest-bumping each other and seem to have struck a partnership down the left-hand side in the absence of club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as well as injuries to Kieran Tierney and Sead Kolasniac.

And the secret to their blossoming double act? Training and communication.

"We train a lot together and we speak a lot," Saka added.

With Aubameyang available for Sunday's trip to Burnley, Arteta has a decision to make over Martinelli. But Saka is once again set to deputise at left-back at Turf Moor.

"It's the situation now because we don't have any left-backs," the Spaniard said in his post-match press conference. "What I like is that he put his head down - it's not his favourite position to play - but we try to adapt him with his qualities to play as much as possible in the position that he likes.

"But then he's very willing to learn all the defensive principles that we are asking him to do and his attitude is really good."
