Bukayo Saka boost, Gabriel Martinelli latest: Arsenal injury news ahead of Aston Villa clash

Arsenal were forced to settle for a point against Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium on Monday night.

However, the Gunners suffered a major setback after Bukayo Saka was forced off with an injury after a poor challenge from Palace midfielder James McArthur.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put Arsenal 1-0 up, however the visitors were the better side and took the lead after the break courtesy of goals from Christian Benteke and Odsonne Edouard.

However, Alexandre Lacazette's injury-time strike rescued a point on a disappointing night for the Gunners.

With a clash against Aston Villa looming on Friday night, Mikel Arteta now has a couple of injury concerns to contend with.

football.london takes a closer look at how the Gunners' squad is shaping up ahead of the visit of Dean Smith’s side.

Granit Xhaka

The Swiss international remains Arsenal's only long-term absentee, the 29-year-old midfielder sustained a knee injury during a freak collision with Tottenham winger Lucas Moura during last month's North London Derby.

Xhaka suffered medial knee ligament damage and is expected to be out of action for the next few weeks.

What Arteta has said: "With Granit, I don’t know, but I’m sure that if you tell him three [months], he will be thinking two [months].

"He will be trying to do extra work to try to minimise that time, that’s for sure.

"We have to do it in the right way because it’s a significant injury and we want to have him back properly when he can."

Expected return date: Mid-November.

Bukayo Saka

The 20-year-old was unable to continue on Monday night after he was kicked on the back of his right leg by McArthur, however he has reportedly been cleared to play against Villa.

According to The Sun, the Gunners’ medical staff have told the England star that he is free to resume training with his teammates.

His return will be a welcome relief for Arteta as he seeks to haul Arsenal out of the bottom half of the Premier League.

Gabriel Martinelli

The Brazilian forward picked up a minor injury in training and was a doubt for Monday’s draw with Palace.

What Arteta has said: "Unfortunately he got injured last week," he said ahead of Monday’s game. "It’s a minor injury.”

However, Martinelli came on late in the game whilst the Gunners were chasing an equaliser and is set to reprieve his role on the bench against Villa.
