Building work at 'state of the art' new city centre campus completes

Construction work on a brand-new ‘state of the art’ education campus has been completed in the city centre. The Manchester College and UCEN Mancheter’s new facility is called City Campus Manchester.

Situated opposite the AO Arena, on the site of a former Boddington’s Brewery plant, the new campus will open to students from September. Bosses believe that more than 1 million Mancunians will come through its doors over the facility’s lifetime.

The campus boasts top-notch equipment for students — from TV, radio, and sound studios, to professional art and photography studios, as well as a 40-seat restaurant run by students. It also has the latest in 3D modelling for design and development.

The project has been some five years in the making, Lisa O’Loughlin, Principal, said. Now, she added, she can’t wait to open its doors.

“City Campus Manchester will not only provide exceptional technical education facilities for learners across Greater Manchester, giving students the perfect environment to gain the skills that they will need for a rewarding career but will also act as a beacon for the power of education and the opportunities it provides in the heart of the city,” she explained.

“We now can’t wait to open the doors to students this September and start working with them to achieve their aspirational goals in the amazing facilities that City Campus Manchester has to offer.”

The building has been designed by architects Bond Bryan and SimpsonHaugh, and features a ‘memorising’ main theatre as the eye-catching focal point. It will also ‘project a golden glow on the building's main atrium’ at the centre of the facility.

With construction works now complete, the College and UCEN Manchester say they will spend the rest of the summer preparing the campus so it is ready for teaching to commence in September.
