Building site closed and three men fined as police enforce lockdown rules

Three men have been hit with fines and a building site closed down as police get tough on those breaking lockdown rules

Police confirmed that the new Coronavirus Act was used to take action in Paisley today.

And it comes days after air support cops handed over anti-social behaviour tickets to four yobs who flouted the law in Pollock Park, hours before the new law was introduced.

In a statement this afternoon, Police Scotland said: "Three males have been issued with fixed penalty notices in Paisley today for leaving their home addresses without a reasonable excuse.

"A building site has also been closed as carrying out non-essential work.

"Please stay home if you don't need to go out."

Police have stepped up patrols across the country and vow to take action where people refuse to implement social distancing rules introduced by the government curb the spread of Covid-19.

Under the new law fine of £60 can be issued to people breaking social distancing rules, lowered to £30 if paid within two weeks.

The fine doubles to £120 for second time offenders, doubling for each further offence to a maximum of £960.

Meanwhile in the Banchory area of Aberdeenshire, healthcare worker returning home from work was assaulted by a teenage thug who deliberately coughed in her face after flagging her down on a country road yesterday afternoon.

Police say the boy, believed to be between 13 and 16-years-old yelled at her that she'd get coronavirus as he ran away laughing following the shocking incident.
