A South Yorkshire engineering and building company is holding a showcase event to tell young people and families about the opportunities available in the construction sector.
Cementation Skanska, in Doncaster, is holding an open evening tonight (Wednesday) for students, parents and carers to find out about careers in engineering and construction.
It's part of Doncaster Careers Week and the Business Showcase Days programme from Doncaster Chamber, which aims to encourage employers to tell the world about the job opportunities they have for local people.
Katie Alovisi from Cementation Skanska said this was the second year the company had taken part in the showcase days event.
She said: "Many of us at Cementation carry out careers events in schools, and explain what we do (Piling/foundations as well as mechanical engineering) therefore I thought it would be beneficial to give students and parents/carers the opportunity to have meaningful encounters in a workplace, and see the facilities at Cementation Skanska for themselves.
"It's also a great opportunity for the students to meet a range of employees, from apprentices to directors, and hear about the different careers routes within engineering.
"This builds on our relationships with the local community, creates a sense of pride amongst our employees and helps attract talent for the future."
Cementation Skanska is an international piling and ground engineering subcontractor that has worked on projects from the Channel Tunnel Rail link to the Amsterdam Metro. It traces its origins to South Yorkshire, where founder Albert Francois won his first contracts at Thorne Colliery near Doncaster in 1910.
Today Cementation Skanska is part of the giant Skanska construction group, which employs more than 40,000 worldwide and some 5,700 in the UK.
