Building engulfed in flames as house fire takes hold sending plumes of smoke into the sky

This dramatic video shows the moment a house fire gripped a property in Bootle as flames engulfed the ground floor.

The property, on the corner of Hawthorne Road and Olivia Street , was involved in a blaze that sparked a large scale emergency services response this afternoon.

Firefighters from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service were called out to the blaze at 3.36pm and arrived on the scene within four minutes.

Four fire engines were sent to battle the blaze, which was captured by one witness passing by in a car as the flames took hold.

The video shows thick smoke filling Hawthorne Road and firefighters on the scene, with the fire clearly visible as the car approaches the building.

Flames can be seen bursting out of the windows of the ground floor of the property, with plumes of black smoke trailing up into the sky.

In the aftermath of the blaze, the brickwork on the outside of the building was blackened and charred by the flames, while the inside appeared to be gutted by the fire.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service told the ECHO it is not believed anyone was injured in the blaze at this stage.

A large section of Hawthorne Road was cordoned off, with residents and cars redirected around the area as officers and firefighters worked at the scene.
