Building 'completely destroyed' after bonfire spread at Stapleford scrap yard

Firefighters have tackled a building fire in Stapleford after a bonfire spread in a scrap yard.

The incident happened at a scrap yard in Bessell Lane, Stapleford, where an attended bonfire had spread to a building.

Crews were called around 11.52am and a spokesman said "a lot of staff tried to help contain the fire".

Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were able to bring the blaze under control within two hours.

The spokesman added: "Crews are now at the home station washing their kit as the fire did involve asbestos. There is no wider risk to the public.

"The building was completely destroyed and crews were there about 2 hours."
