Building collapses as firefighters and search dogs hunt for people in rubble

Residents of a London street were evacuated after a building collapsed, sparking a hunt for survivors in the rubble.

Emergency cervices were called to Gloucester Drive, north London, at around 12pm today following reports of a partial building collapse in the capital.

As officers evacuated nearby residents search dogs well and drones were used in an attempt to find anyone trapped in the rubble.

It is currently unknown what caused part of the building to collapse.

A 31-year-old neighbour said: "All I heard was a loud sound and the building I live by shaking like there was an earthquake. It was very scary.

“When I looked outside the window, the entire building was collapsed.”

Around 60 firefighters were at the scene of the incident as they continued the search for any possible victims and to ensure the rest of the building did not come down.

At around 5pm the London Fire Brigade confirmed no one had been injured.

Station Commander Jon Singleton, who was at the scene, said: "In hot and humid conditions, crews from our Urban Search and Rescue teams worked tirelessly, alongside our drone team and police search dogs, to ensure that there were no casualties trapped under the rubble.

"Thankfully no injuries are reported."

A video had earlier showed a firefighter calling for anyone trapped to make a noise so they could be found before it was confirmed no one was under the rubble.

A spokesperson for the Met Police said: "Police were called to Gloucester Drive, N4 at about 12.20hrs on Saturday 24 June following reports of a partial building collapse.

"Emergency services attended and a number of properties were evacuated for safety reasons."

Another resident, who lives next door to the damaged property, told MyLondon he had felt a "huge shake".

He added: "We have all been told to close our windows on the side facing the collapse.

"Multiple firefighters are here and the area has been cordoned off. It is still unclear if anyone is stuck under the rubble. Firefighters continuously are checking if anyone is there.

"We felt a huge shake."
