Builders unable to work after thieves steal JCB telehandler from Newark construction site

Police are trying to establish how thieves made off with a construction vehicle from a building site in Newark over the weekend.

The JCB telehandler was reportedly taken between 5pm on Friday (July 9) and 8am on Monday (July 12) from Clifton Lane in Thorney.

The telehandler’s tracker was also removed and left at the scene on Sunday at around 9pm.

Telehandlers, also known as telescopic handlers, are lifting machines commonly used in agriculture and building. They are similar to forklift trucks but have an extendable horizontal boom arm.

Officers investigating the theft are now appealing for the public to come forward if they saw anything suspicious in the area or have any information about the stolen vehicle.

PC Scott Chambers, of Nottinghamshire Police, who is leading the investigation, said: “We are working to ascertain how the JCB was taken, especially as the theft has left hard-working construction workers unable to work and their employers facing an expensive bill to replace the vehicle.

“We are keen to piece together what happened and I would like to speak to anyone who may have been in the area over the weekend and saw the JCB. I would encourage anyone with any information to come forward as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information about the theft or the whereabouts of the vehicles is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 362 of July 12, 2021.
