A blackjack player from Southampton has turned a £1 stake into £21,073 after winning the jackpot at the Grosvenor Casino on the south coast.
A builder from the area, who wants to remain anonymous, is a regular at the casino and on this occasion was there with his wife.
According to Grosvenor Casino, he placed a £1 side bet on Grosvenor Casino’s Ace King Suited Progressive Blackjack game, which resulted in the windfall.
The 45-year-old was dealt an ace and king of hearts, with the dealer’s up card an ace of clubs.
He knew that if the dealer pulled a king of clubs, then he was in line for a big payout - cue the huge celebrations.
“I never expected to win so big,” said the jackpot winner.
“My wife and I were just having a bit of weekend fun when all of a sudden, the cards aligned. We are both still so shocked and can’t wait to treat the family to a dream holiday.”
Conor Toner, general manager at Grosvenor Casino Southampton, added: “It’s always exciting to see a guest land a big win, but this one was especially memorable.
“You could feel the whole table willing that final card to appear and when it did, the reaction was fantastic.”
