Builder used cocaine to try and lure young girls into sexual acts

A “manipulative” and “controlling” builder used cocaine to try and lure young girls in taking part in sexual acts.

Robert Case, 42, appearing at Liverpool crown court via video link, was convicted of a slew of sexual offences and abuse that dated back seven years. The court heard how Case, of Croxteth Hall Lane, Liverpool, would “snort” cocaine and use the substance to try and lure girls under the age of 16 into sexual acts.

Case was charged with two counts of sexual assault on a child under the age of 13 and four counts of sexual assault. He was also charged with breaching a restraining order and partaking in sexual communication with a child.

Prosecutor, Gareth Roberts, told the court that on one occasion Case was driving in the car with a 10-year-old girl and proceeded to “snort” cocaine. After taking the cocaine, he then tried to “put his hand down her pants”, but the young girl refused the cocaine when offered and resisted his advances.

On another occasion, Case was at his home with a teenage girl when he took cocaine and offered it to her before “pursing her” and making a number of sexual advances.

The court heard how he moved to “pull her leggings off" her and stated his desire to perform oral sex on her. After resisting, Case’s pursuit of the teenager led to the bedroom where he stated he wanted to have sex with her.

Later, the teenage girl then fled from the property.

The two victims provided statements to the court which were read out by Mr Roberts. The girl who was abused when in the car by Case spoke of how only now she is "starting to recognise herself" after the abuse.

She added how she “can’t relax around men anymore "and can't always hug people due to the trauma, adding how Case "stole her childhood from her” and that she “fears that it could happen to another girl.”

The teenage girl who was abused at Case’s property said she now struggles to eat and suffers from "flashbacks" and "panic attacks". She added how seeing men “reminds her of Robert Case”. In the statements it was heard how Case was “manipulative” and “controlling”, leaving victims in fear of “what he was capable of”.

Defending, Mr Paul Wood said the attacks were “repeated but short lived” but sought not to downplay their “unpleasantness”. Judge Robert Trevor-Jones said he could also not give any credit for the late stage of Case’s guilty plea, but did give credit for pleading guilty to breaching the restraining order that was in place.

It was noted in court that Case had relevant previous convictions, which included cocaine and trying to lure a schoolgirl into his van, leading to a high speed police chase across the city. The teenage girl was approached by Case in the Sefton Street area of Litherland in October, 2016. The teen refused to get into the van and a member of the public raised the alarm.

Case, who was high on cocaine at the time, was pursued and tried to run down a police officer, rammed a patrol car and then fled to Formby and Southport before crashing into a shop front. He was jailed for three years and a month after the incident but was later released on licence.

Summing up today’s case, Judge Robert Trevor-Jones described Case’s use of cocaine as his “modus operandi” when trying to lure young girls into sexual acts. He said that Case poses a “high risk of serious harm to children.”

Case was sentenced to eight years and three months in prison. Shouts of “get in” could be also heard from the public gallery when Judge Trevor Jones said that Case would be on the sexual offenders list “indefinitely”.
