David Boreanaz has responded to the allegations made against Buffy the Vampire Slayercreator Joss Whedon.

On Wednesday (10 February), Charisma Carpenter accused Whedon of “abusing his power” on the set and firing her from spin-off series Angel after she had given birth.

Boreanaz appeared with Carpenter in Buffy, as well as its spin-off Angel. The actor had faced mounting pressure from fans to comment on his co-star’s statement, which Whedon himself is yet to address.

On Sunday (14 February), Boreanaz responded to Carpenter’s original post, writing: “I am here for you to listen and support you. Proud of your strength.”

Carpenter thanked Boreanaz in a reply that seemingly alluded to the pressure the actor had faced from fans to publicly respond to her allegations.

In the wake of Carpenter’s original post, several more Buffy stars, including Amber Benson and Michelle Trachtenberg, backed up Carpenter’s claims with their own allegations against the writer-director.

Benson claimed the show was filmed amid “a toxic environment” that “started at the top”.

Carpenter’s other male co-stars Anthony Head and James Marsters, who played Giles and Spike respectively, have both expressed their sadness over the allegations, and shared their support for Carpenter.
