Buffalo makes Houdini-like escape thanks to his friends

An African buffalo at a watering hole in the world-famous Kruger National Park in South Africa found itself between a rock and a hard place otherwise known as a crocodile and a pride of lions intent on making it a meal.

Thuli Khumalo of Atamela Tours was conducting a recent tour when he came across the intense standoff between a buffalo and its dangerous predators. He captured the scene in compelling video just posted on Latest Sightings.

A pride of lions was hiding in the shade near the Transport Dam when a herd of impalas passed by. Too fast for them to catch, the lions quickly turned their attention to a lone buffalo bull at the edge of the watering hole and gave chase.

The buffalo found refuge from the lions by going into the water but soon encountered a hungry crocodile, which attempted to take it down.

There was no way out for the buffalo, or so it seemed.

In a Houdini-like escape, the buffalo managed to get away from the crocodile and escaped the awaiting lions on land with a little help from its friends.

“When buffaloes are under threat, they will call for help,” Latest Sightings explained. “Luckily, for this buffalo, his calls were answered.

“A massive herd of buffalo that was on its way to the dam saw the commotion and chased the lions away, saving the life of [its] fellow buffalo, unbeknown to us if it is from the same herd.”
