Budget supermarket chain Lidl wants to open 13 new stores across North Staffordshire

Discount supermarket chain Lidl wants to open 13 new stores across North Staffordshire as part of its ongoing expansion plan.

The German retailer has identified a number of target sites across the county - including in Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Lidl already has stores in Stoke, Longton, Newcastle, Bentilee, Tunstall, Leek and Stafford - and plans are already in place for a new site on Festival Park and on the existing Kidsgrove Workingmen's Club site.

But now the company has highlighted new locations which 'particularly interest' them.

This includes sites in Fenton, Burslem, Trentham, Chesterton, Newcastle west, Biddulph, Cheadle and Stone as well as three in Stafford.

A spokesman for Lidl, which has more than 700 branches in the UK, said: "We want to double our portfolio. To continue our phenomenal growth we require further sites across the country.

"Our requirements are prominent sites in town, district, edge of centre or out of town locations."
