Bmibaby will start a new route from Cardiff to Germany this weekend

Budget airline bmibaby will start a new service from Cardiff to Munich this weekend just in time for the Christmas German markets.

The airline will operate three flights a week from Cardiff Airport to the Germany's third largest city – the first low cost carrier to fly the route.

Bmibaby, currently celebrating eight years of flying from Cardiff Airport, said they expect to carry more than 10,000 business and leisure passengers over the winter period.

Managing director of bmibaby, Julian Carr, said:

"We are delighted to have added Munich to our network of routes from Cardiff Airport. Munich is a cosmopolitan city and as Germany is not currently served from the region, Munich is perfect for leisure and business travellers.

"This new route will allow the region to develop strong business links with Germany and will provide much needed connectivity from the region to Germany as well as important inward investment.

"It really is an exciting time for the airline in Cardiff as the launch of Munich coincides with our eighth birthday. We are proud to continue to offer people of the region exciting European destinations to visit."

The airline will start the route from Cardiff to Munich on Sunday.
